thanks flix - i agree with your review besides for 3 major differences. the yiddish lyrics still gets tears in my eyes each time I hear it. the last song - vaani ashir is a serious favorite - stirring - simple yet complex and i think the horeeyu song is just awesome. That tagidida beat has never been heard in the jewish music world and yet despite the newness it retains such jewish flavor. Bottom Line - I think it is the best cd the jewish music world has had in years!!

u r right about yossi mayer its a cd that blew me away, its a long time that such type of cd came out its gr8.
but why do u right like that on gideone levine?

Gideone is close to retirement, he's no longer a young guy, so I don't think I'm hurting his career anymore when I say that I hate his guts.

When I was a boy and teenager, alot of CDs on the market were from him. Im not a professional and I surely wasn't then, but almost every time I felt like something ( 'something') is missing and I went back to check the cover -and it started being a pattern.

Maybe I'm crazy, but the music on Yossi Mayers CD is muffled (i.e. the treble is very low) and I hate that. To silence such expensive arrangements is a crime. Gideone also helped spoil two nice songs on the album

In general you will see that the most imperfect and sloppy Jewish CDs are the ones directed by him.

One more thing: You might ask why I mention it, why I have to smear him, why I pick a fight.

Answer: Jewish music is a very, very small industry. Its like a mom-and-pop store. So the few people involved should only be the best - otherwise they are hurting Jewish Music. Others should leave - or be thrown out.

Just to show you I'm fair: I love Yossi Green so much, you cant imagine. But I believe he is a terrible producer of CDs- he did a poor job on Dedi, Shimon Cramer and Ohad. Sorry. Still, he's not as bad as Gideone.

i konow yossi very well..he told me that gidon made the cd go up from a 50 to a 100...he coached him a lot in the singing part

JoeFlix said...

Thank you Avi - and if you're friends with Yossi please tell him to stop by and send us a Pic. I really appriciate his hard work.

Now,

I have no problem with Gideone as a composer, voice coach, etc etc. Im talking about directing a CD and engineering the sound. He should not run the show - I never said he cant help out like all the little guys who specialize in certain parts of the operation.

Thanks again.

I must agree that while the CD is A-1 (esp for a first) the MUSIC is generally unclear -its good only on one are two songs (for example Karev Yom and al toimar.) The guy prob. paid alot for the arranger so its a pity to spoil it like this..

Yossi deserves credit for keeping it Chasidish and yes, its still very nice!

About your nice imposing review on Yeedle's new album,
Yes i agree with most of your points and remarks on this beautiful cd, but i also disagree with a few things.

first of all about Lev achad - the first song, your words "This is a track with great energy and a rarity of a fast song that can make you very emotional". We had a whole discussion about this already, i think its a private feeling of yours, This song is totaly not an emotional song, totaly not in that catagory, and as the first “rockin’” song on the album the goal was - and is - it should be the rocky Cheerful hit of the album and not the song you should cry on,
Sometimes a really fast song can make you emotional, the real examples are the Carlebach songs (which this is my 'private feeling'....) it could be the way he sings it or the words, but to say that this song here is emotional?! nope i can't say that.

Ilan - When i heard the song the first time i was like 'no it can't be...' It sounded very plain and unattractive, i decided to push repeat and listen to the song again, and... wow! how the song changed after the second - and third... - listen,
I cant say that i am one of your friends who are crazy about it, but i am your friend who loves this song...
I like the way he says Ilan after every few words, like he is talking to the tree "Elu yehi rutzon -Ilan, elu yehi rutzon –Ilan, Shekul .. yiyu k'moschu –Ilan, My sweet tree!

Ahalel Amalel i agree with you 100% even with the way you're calling the song... Falafel....

About Keshoshana i am very disappointed, not from the song, i am disappointed with your review..
The lyrics – written by our fantastic Lipa! - are so fittable and so beautiful, did you realize how the Blimele/Shaifele flows with the tone up & down?!
what a powerful strong concept, mameash it overpowered me with emotion, the song expresses our sufferings, the reality of our painful matzev.
You can agree that without this beautiful lyrics the tone wouldent be worth a penny...

Min Hameitzar is one of the best songs, since i am not such a MBD fan, now was the first time i heard this song, its full of compassion which really touches our hearts.

"Return" is really nice, the piano intro - Especially the chords - from Aaron Razel is really something,
Even the song was already on a few latest albums, here Yeedle added some more words from R' Shlomo'le z"l, the way he used to sing it.

Anony, will you believe me when I say I had exactly the same feeling?? I guess great minds think alike. Lol

About Lipas lyrics - I love Lipa so much (I do mean that), still, he is not God. His lyrics can also suck sometimes. Keshoshana is a worthless track. Sorry.
Remember: You are a Jew - there is only one God.

Hey mr flix the word useless is a very powerful word. there are TONS of people who are completely touched by that yiddish song and are convinced that this has all the makings of a classic. now as the man in charge here you should be careful not to smash people's emotions like that. personally, i like the melody and lyrics but love other songs more (ex - last track - vani ashir + return + mah tamar) so i don't care

I am not a team of experts who decide stuff. I am one little man and its only my opinion -which I choose to share with you guys... So please nobody shoul take this too serious.

I have to admit that I listened to Keshoshana again. Im starting to see what youre all talking about. Its Good.

Maybe Yeedle is not made for a Yiddish song. I could hear Izik Honig or Lipa singing it better.

Deia Zuger said...

Forget about the singing, we are talking about the lyrics,

Yes Yeedle is singing the song on a very low scale, but thats an issue with the "song" and "tone",
But the lyrics?! its massive! the concept is something more then stam good...

this yeedle album is out of this world!! he sings so professional and still so hartzig. the whole thing is such a great production - he taught the jewish music world a lot. look at the cover - and then the inside book. it's the first album i saw so nicely written and no mistakes. kzcreative is really good. btw, ana bekoich is my absolute favorite. listen well to it

Anony (the last one)

The more I listen to the CD, the more I like it. Yes, ana Bachoach is a great song, esp the high part.

I did notice the perfection of the cover. Very nice

bought the tape because of joe, and Joe you better make sure to pay me back the money beucase i was wating for something special to be heard, there is nothing special with this cd, i even think its worse then his old ones, and if he was working on this cd for 3 years he should make sure next time just to work 6 months maybe it will be better, i also believe that if he wouldnt be MBD son he would sell less cd then Mendy W or YW
think cd is a flop, but of course he will sell it since he is MBD son. and joe make sure before u write a reveiw thta u listen to the cd becuse u made me looose 15.99

last anonymous-besides for distasteful-that was an aveira - if even one person does not purchase yeedle's cd because of you and he has a hefsed mamon - you sinned. besides, don't you realize that you are the only one disagreeing - clearly you have no clue what quality music and sophisticated singing is all about! Watch your mouth kid (including your spelling and grammar). shalom, yehuda finkelstein

you might make fun of my spelling, but one thin for sure I got my point across loud and clear, and dont tell me what I am allowed to say and what not, oh forgot it gets even better wow did you tell me to wathc my mouth????? dude meet me anytime any place
and will see if you will ever say anything again like that to me
oh and i know u are going to start again with my spelling grammer
but I know thats the one thing u are better then me, and as far as music I think you have no taste

Anonymous said...

What does your personal argument have with the album???

In yiddish ther is an expression "Geitz shlugtz enk indrosen" (Like -"Excuse me, go fight outside...")

Anonymous said...

As you people can see on the updated, after listening to Yossi Mayer, I did change my mind regarding Gidone Levine. Hes pretty good -although there is a slight imperfection in the mix

Anonymous said...

the mix for yossi mayer was don by ilya leshinski and he is the top off the line...
